ECPAT: Fight Against Child Cyber Pornography

Posted in Shared on April 30th, 2009 by herkulano – Be the first to comment

BETC Euro RSCG has launched a new communication campaign in partnership with Partizan for ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes). Directed by Asger Leth, the film portrays every step in the chain of abuse, where the face of the people abusing the child is replaced by the face of a European who, we discover at the end of the film, is the man who will look at photographs of the little girl being ill-treated. This reinforces the message at the end of the film that if there is no demand there will be no supply and highlights the responsibility of the clients. From April this campaign will be broadcast for free in the media: television, cinema, press and web have all agreed to contribute. The Air France agencies, airplanes and buses will join in on June and provide an essential showcase. ECPAT will also circulate leaflets and small posters in partnership with their professional tourism partners.

Touch-Free, Gestural Interface, Powered by Electrostatics

Posted in Shared on April 27th, 2009 by herkulano – Be the first to comment

3D Computer Interface from Free Flow on Vimeo.

During long winters with indoor heat running overtime, I imagine you’ve built up your fair amount of static electricity, and as the sparks fly, wondered why you couldn’t put that power to some good use.

Working with electrostatics, a team of students at Northeastern University in Boston have done just that. For their senior design capstone project, they assembled a gestural interface which allows 3D control just by waving a hand in front of a computer. That sort of idea is all the rage these days. The difference here: there’s no camera, no IR emitters, no markers or physical controllers.

You just move your hand in three-dimensional space, and the control data is transmitted to the computer. In fact, it’s one of the more touchless interfaces I’ve seen since the father of them all, the Theremin.

That does appear to be a blanket underneath their hand. Now, being the glutton for punishment I am, I want to figure out a way to do this in which there are sparks.

More on this project as I learn about it, but it looks like it’s got some great potential. The bottom line to me is that there’s every reason to begin interacting with three-dimensional onscreen interfaces using spatial physical interfaces. Joysticks and mice actually do a reasonably good job, but they don’t cover the entire gamut of what’s possible. Now it’s up to the software to start using that control data.

Australian Childhood Foundation: Invisible

stop-child-abuse-now

Provoking street campaign which can be seen right now in Melbourne for the Australian Childhood Foundation. For their ongoing campaign Stop Child Abuse Now they used child size mannequins to represent children suffering neglect. The mannequins were placed in high traffic locations around the city and then a billposter was pasted over the top of the figure so only the feet and legs could be seen. Words on the poster read, “Neglected Children are made to feel invisible.”

FITC 2009 Toronto – A Preview of Adobe Flash Catalyst by Mark Anders

I am onsite at FITC in toronto recording the event in partnership with Shawn and his team. I grabbed Mark Anders session and posted it online for viewing. An hour ago he gave his session on "A Preview of Adobe Flash Catalyst". It is easily the latest info available on Flash Catalyst and provides a deep look into the product in development.

Note: The audio from this video is set a bit low as there was some popping in the mic. We have since fixed the recording issue.

Cheers,

Ted :)

Hooray For The New Generation

Posted in Shared on April 25th, 2009 by herkulano – Be the first to comment

Cyber guru Don Tapscott talks about how the new generation is changing the world by developing new ways of thinking and interacting. Hooray for the new generation, I’d say. They are committed to do something meaningful with their lives, they are eager to learn, don’t focus on money and want work to be fun.... These 26 minutes are well worth watching.
